Jack lived in Ireland. He was known as a scoundrel but a clever scoundrel; he tricked and captured the devil. Later he negoiated the release of the devil under the condition that the devil would not take his soul. We Jack did meet his fate, his character wouldn't allow him into heaven and he made the deal with the devil not to go to hell. Jack's soul was aimless and in darkness. He asked the devil what he was supposed to do, the devil mocked him and threw him a burning coal to light his way. Jack hollowed out a turnip and put the coal inside to use as a lantern. He then began his endless wander; Jack of the Lantern.
